Smile ideas

So I was thinking today that if I ever get the smile project into a gallery here are some ideas I could implement to make the show more "interactive". A mirror with a mask hanging by a thread so someone could see themselves with a mask and the mirror is actually a two-way mirror and people could watch from the other side or it could be videotaped; pre-made masks with the other side my business card or a list of the pictures in the show; setup a photo shoot for people to get their picture with a mask; more later . . . .

Portrait Assignment Idea

Here is the idea for my portrait assignment. I want to use christmas lights behind black fabric with a self powered lantern. I will use strobes to produce a hair light or edge light. This time we are using digital cameras but I was thinking to shoot a couple of 4x5 transperecy.

Ideas

I have been trying to find the "idea". Here are some of them: taking pictures of different facial expressions using a large format camera with transparencies, taking pictures of license plates, scanning different people's drivers license, take pictures of everyone's kitchen on my hall with medium format or digital, have a camera on an elevator and take a picture of surprised people walking thru the elevator doors. Another idea is to take a picture every 5 steps or 8 steps through my whole day (call the project 8 steps) or every 30 seconds take a picture.

first class assignment

Tomorrow is our first class assignment. We are going to shoot in class 3 similar white objects on a table. I am going to use 3 pizza boxes from mellow mushroom. I am going to try to get a seamless tomorrow morning before class probably from PPR. I am going to shoot the table top with a light from the side and a reflector on the other to even out the light. I am going to have the seamless curved up in the background and shoot level so that the boxes seem gigantic and like a city. I am looking forward to shooting this assignment. I am also looking forward to see how the critique goes with our teacher. I have high hopes for this class and so far it is coming through.

PINHOLE

I am really excited because I found online a guy who posted on his blog here how to make a matchbook pinhole camera. The opening is 24mm x 24mm opening so I should be able to get alot of images from one roll of film. I am also going to try to make a pinhole camera out of a cigarette box. These two ideas will go along with the other pictures I have done with the digital pinhole camera. I might try some other ideas with the digital pinhole. I think I'll buy some color lights to use in the studio.
