SHORT STORY/ AMBIENT LIGHT ASSIGNMENT

For this assignment we had to take a short story for our environment and use a our subject a electrical device that produces its own light. I wanted to do The Christmas Story and use christmas lights but I couldn't find a suitable BB gun (it turned out that our teacher had one). So I turned to the next best thing, Poject 86. The lead singer had published a few books about his travels in the band. In one particular story he talks about a moment where he is half asleep and half awake listening to his ipod and looking out of the van window while traveling to their next concert. He notices a police car driving beside the van on the interstate and comments on how the passenger is chewing on sunflower seeds and spitting the shells out of the open window. This was the idea behind my shot. Using a soft box on one strobe I shot it half power with a f-stop of 16.9 at 4 seconds. We had to use the longer exposure to capture the ambient light. The exposure s after that went as normal (-1/2, +1/2, and +1 stop from the normal exposure whick was f16 at 4 seconds). The hardest part of this shot was arrangment. This included tilting the ipod so that the light didn't reflect into the screen and you could actually view the lit screen.
